Vala

The carbon Vala is the one to look at if you want the range and the lighter frame. If the price is the deciding factor, the Vala AL rides much the same way.

Vala

The Vala is Santa Cruz's carbon all-mountain electric bike, and the more versatile of their two Bosch-powered bikes. It suits riders who want one bike for flowing trails, long days and rough after-work laps.

Like the Bullit it uses a four-bar Horst link rather than VPP, with a Bosch Performance Line CX motor and a 600Wh internal battery. A 250Wh Bosch PowerMore range extender takes total capacity to 850Wh, which is the difference between a big day and a very big day. The carbon frame is the lighter option over the aluminium Vala AL, and it takes the Kiox display that the AL does not.

Build kits

  • XT Di2 RSV. Carbon CC, Shimano XT Di2, Reserve carbon wheels.
  • GX AXS. Carbon C, SRAM GX Eagle Transmission.
  • 90. Carbon C, SRAM 90 cable-operated T-Type Transmission.

Key features

  • Four-bar Horst link suspension
  • Bosch Performance Line CX motor with a 600Wh internal battery
  • Takes the 250Wh Bosch PowerMore range extender for 850Wh total
  • Carbon frame, lighter than the Vala AL
  • Mixed wheels

The battery is fixed rather than removable, so be sure that suits how you charge and store the bike. If the budget matters more than the weight, look at the Vala AL instead.
