Project One is Trek's custom bike programme. You start with one of Trek's top-tier frames, then choose the paint, the finish, the logo colour and the components, and Trek hand paints and hand builds the bike to your order. It is the closest thing to a bespoke bike you can get from a major brand.

They are 3 different levels of design input. With Signature you pick your frame colour, logo colour and a matte or gloss finish. Chroma gives you 8 mirror-finish colourways made with an exclusive paint process, plus your choice of logo colour. ICON is where Trek's artists take over, with curated one-off paint schemes at the top of what the programme can do.

Six models are available in New Zealand: Madone for road racing, Speed Concept for triathlon, Checkmate for gravel racing, Supercaliber for cross country, Fuel for trail and Fuel+ for electric trail. Come in and we will talk through which one suits how you actually ride.

It starts with a consultation in the showroom. We talk about the riding you do, the model that suits it and the look you are after, then work through paint, finish, logo and components together. We place the order with Trek, your bike is hand painted and hand built, and it lands with us. We build it, set it up to your fit numbers and hand it over ready to ride.

Yes, and this is the one piece of advice we would push hardest. Project One lets you specify stem length, handlebar width, crank length and saddle at no extra cost, which means your fit numbers get built into the bike from the start. Order without them and you are guessing on parts that are awkward to change later. Do the fit first and the bike arrives already right.

Yes, and Trek does not charge extra for it. Stem length, handlebar width, crank length and saddle choice are all part of the build, so the bike is specified around you rather than around a stock size chart. This is the part of Project One most people do not know about, and it is worth more than the paint.

It depends entirely on the model, the frame level, the paint programme and the groupset you choose, so there is no single price. These are premium builds and they start well above a stock bike. Book a consultation and we will price your exact spec before you commit to anything.

Longer than an off-the-shelf bike, because yours is painted and built to order and then shipped to New Zealand. Lead times move depending on the model and the paint you pick, so we will give you a current estimate at your consultation rather than a number that might be out of date. If you are building for a specific event, tell us the date and we will work backwards from it.

A deposit confirms your build and locks your slot with Trek. Once your bike goes into production the spec is fixed, because the frame is being painted by hand to your order, so we take time at the consultation stage to get every detail right before anything is submitted.

Yes, and we would encourage it. You can ride a stock version of the model you are considering so you know how it feels before you spend months waiting for a custom one. Feeling the difference between a Madone and a Checkmate on the road beats reading about it.
