This is CYCO
Bringing the best in service to your bikes
Darren Murray, Owner
My goal is to run a shop that is accessible for every cyclist to come, chat or chill with no pressure. I'm always up for a coffee and a yarn.
Darren fell in love with cycling when he was 18 after watching the Tour de France, but he never rode seriously until he hit his early 20’s. As he got more serious about the sport, he had an epiphany, realising that working in a bike shop would allow him the time to train and learn everything possible about bikes.
Darren has always been mechanically minded so becoming a mechanic was a perfect for him, after working in several shops he joined the CYCO crew in 1996.
During a four year sabbatical from CYCO, Darren ran the Mavic service centre for New Zealand and supported the Mavic sponsored riders during the MTB world champs in Rotorua. He also travelled throughout France training with the Mavic team.
Returning to NZ, Darren took over as the workshop manager of CYCO and ultimately, in 2015, Darren took ownership of the store and moved it to Kingsland
Darren’s palmarès over his time racing include representing NZ at the Tour of Taiwan and the Tour of Japan, he raced in Holland for an offshoot of the Rabobank team and had reasonable success. In NZ, he won around Taupo, a stage of Tour of Southland, and won/was on the podium in numerous one day races and stages of tours. He finished second in the Sprint race in both the Tour of Southland and Tour of Wellington.
Cosmo Bloor
I’m Cosmo and I work at CYCO as a mechanic. When I’m not at work I’ll usually be out riding, I enjoy hilly road rides but my love for cycling is truely captured in the forest. I have a real love of all things technical so love the challenge that being a bike mechanic brings.
Logan Griffin
Logan started sweeping the floors at CYCO on his school holidays over 10 years ago, and now and after a quick University degree and some focused time developing expert coaching, bike fit and racing skills, Logan has came back to the team a few years older and maybe even a bit wiser from his travels.
Max Neradt
Hi, my name is Max. I am studying Pharmacology at Auckland Uni. I have been an avid Mountain Biker ever since I joined JafaKids MTB Club in 2011. I now mostly ride Enduro and Dirt Jump bikes. If you see someone riding around town on a parrot coloured Dirt Jumper, that's probably me.
Chewie
Chewie is the most junior team member at CYCO, but perhaps the best looking. He is an expert at all tasks up to 4 inches off the ground, He loves a pat and a cuddle and to be fair is the cutest member of staff.
